Obituary

On Thursday, July 14, 2022, Barbara "Ann" Atchison, entered fully into the presence of the Lord, at the age of 74.

Barbara Ann Atchison, was born January 11, 1948, in Nansemond County Virginia, to the late Georgia and Arthur Perkins. At an early age, Barbara relocated to Brooklyn, NY, with her mom and siblings. Barbara graduated from Franklin K. Lane High School in Brooklyn, NY, and continued her education at Medgar Evers College. She became a certified teachers assistant and worked at ABSW daycare. She enjoyed working at the daycare, and assisted with their many fashion shows and pageants. She worked at ABSW for several years, until they were closed down.

On April 16, 1966, Barbara was united in holy matrimony to the late Belford Atchison. From their union, six children were born.

Barbara was a respected woman of God, known for her kind and compassionate spirit. Barbara's Christian faith was an essential part of her life. She loved the lord, her family, church and Welch's grape soda. Barbara enjoyed sitting on her porch on Franklin Avenue. Before her health declined, she enjoyed cooking. Her infamous banana pudding was everyone's favorite. Barbara was nurturing. After raising six children of her own, she helped raise several of her grandchildren.

We are thankful that Barbara is again in the arms of her beloved husband, parents, son; Phillip Shane Atchison, sisters; Bessie Williams, Shirley Thomas, Audrey Murchison and brother; Theodore Perkins.

She leaves to cherish her life, legacy and memory, her loving children Belford Atchison, Gerod Atchison, Gregory Atchison, Belinda Atchison, and Samantha Atchison Samuels's; son-in-law's, Wayne Samuels Jr, Clyde Led, and daughter-in-law Connie Atchison; sisters, Gloria Brown, Priscilla Reels, and Arletha Perkins; brother Tony Thomas; twenty-five grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
