Betty
Graham
Jan 24, 1945 — Jan 5, 2024
Plainfield
Betty Graham was the third child and second daughter born to Claude and Georgianna Graham. Betty made her world debut on Wednesday, January 24th, 1946 at 8:33 pm at Greenpoint Hospital, Brooklyn, NY.
Betty was a quiet child, with big, beautiful, expressive eyes, a great sense of humor, and a one of a kind laugh. Once you heard it, you never forgot it, because it would make you laugh, too. As a little girl, she could walk on her toes, her parents thought she would become a dancer. She grew to have a love of dance, acting, and fashion. Betty attended P.S. 24 and P.S 59., JHS 33. At the age of 15, her love of fashion, and chutzpah, prompted her to send the actress, Elizabeth Taylor, a drawing of one of her creations. Ms Taylor sent her a reply, thanking Betty and encouraged her to seek out a career in fashion. This prompted Betty, to switch her focus to fashion, where she applied to The High School of Fashion Industry and was accepted, where she graduated in 1966. In 1968, she auditioned and won a 4 year MLK Scholarship in Drama at Carnegie Mellon University. In 1969, she transferred to NYU School of the Arts, and graduated the BFA Acting Program in 1973. She was a Member of ACTORS EQUITY ASSOCIATION and performed at The Hartford Stage Company, Hartford, Connecticut. LaMama Theater Company, and The Richard Allen Cultural Center for the Arts.
Betty left the arts in 1980 and for the next seven years she worked as a Regional Branch Manager at CITIBANK. She was loved and respected by coworkers and clients and was featured in the yearly publication of WHO'S WHO in PROFESSIONAL and EXECUTIVE WOMEN of 1987. During that time she managed to write a children's play, entitled "The Jefferson Park Thriller." She also travelled to Egypt, where she rode a camel and dipped her feet in the NILE River. Betty checked and completed her Life's, Things to Do List.
Betty Graham is survived by her two children, Daughter, Raine Bunn and Son In-Law Damon Bunn. Son: Chase Anderson Graham. Grandchildren: Janae Europe, Mikhi Europe, Jakhi Europe.
