Beulah Alice
Johnson
Dec 24, 1925 — Dec 11, 2025
Brooklyn
Beulah Alice Johnson was born in Darlington, South Carolina on December 24th, 1925. She was the daughter of the late Lena Gore and Willard Thomas Sr. She graduated from the Darlington County Public Schools. While still residing in Darlington, South Carolina, she found employment as a domestic worker which created an opportunity to migrate to Brooklyn, New York.
She later found a career as a 2nd cook at the Learner Haven Daycare Center. She enjoyed planning the weekly menu by preparing meals and desserts for the children and staff at the daycare center. She was then promoted to a 1st cook and continued to work there for 23 years.
She was married to Henry James Johnson (d. 2015) and before divorcing him, she had three children which were her two sons, Henry Johnson (d. 2014) and James Johnson (d. 2020) and one daughter, Dolores Johnson Greene.
She retired at the age of seventy and began pursuing her other passions. She loved to travel to new places and had very fond memories of her trips. She visited Puerto Rico and even went on cruises. Over the years, she would enjoy gambling and would often play bingo and attend poker games in Atlantic City. She used to say a dollar and tv were her friends. Her favorite tv shows were game shows like Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud and The Price is Right. She was so impressed with Steve Harvey's clothing.
Her siblings that preceded her in death were Bertha Phillips, Victoria Gettys, Rosa Joseph, Willard Thomas, and Flora Bell Thomas. She is survived by her daughter, Dolores Johnson Greene and her two granddaughters, Felicia Greene Vasquez and Tryphena Greene as well as her three great granddaughters; Amanda Vasquez, Brianna Vasquez, and Sabrina Vasquez and nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends.
