Obituary

Today We Honor And Celebrate The Life Of A Wonderful Man

Billy E. Butler went home to be with the Lord on Thursday April 21, 2022 at his home in East Brunswick, NJ. Billy lived a good 76 years. He was a Christmas Baby born on December 25, 1945 in Florida, to mother Helen D. (Butler) Thompson. He spent most of his childhood in Florida in formative schools and upon graduation Billy entered the U.S. Armed Forces in the Army. He served his country proudly and received an Honorable Discharge. Billy eventually moved north to Newark, NJ and stayed with our Aunt Anne, our mother Helen Thompson's sister. Billy served as well for some years as a Police Officer in his 20's and eventually he began working for the Railroad. He had spent the last 40 years working with the NYS International Longshoreman's Association.

Though Billy never had any children he did have a love for music going to R&B, and Jazz concerts frequently and sporting events like WWE. For years debating that some of the wrestling moves that were done were real. And would go back and forth with you about it. He made efforts to support family members involved in music like his Brother Byron. And he also spent time socializing with friends on the job and in his neighborhood.  If you talked to anyone who knew Billy they would describe him as such a nice and funny man, from relatives, to friends, to coworkers. Even People he had to do business with like his Landlord or local merchants who knew him would speak well of him. Billy often use to say there were specific things that always showed up in our family's Blood Line. Our Brother had a quiet and reflective reverence for God, as he would often refer to "The Man Upstairs."  He lived many years in Newark and most recently moved to East Brunswick,NJ where he enjoyed the quiet.

Our mother Helen passed on most recently in 2019. In addition a younger brother Brandon Thompson, a niece Jhana Wiggins, and his sister Deborah Wiggins passed also.

Billy is survived by Brother Byron Thompson Sr., Terrence, Dorian, Valicia, an Aunt Ruth Jones, 3 nieces, 2 nephews, a number of great nieces and cousins. Billy's jovial spirit, his laughter and goodwill to ALL with be sorely missed. God Bless him.
