Obituary

Cheryl Janine Pierce was a remarkable mother, sister, daughter, grandmother and friend who loved without reserve. She was a warrior in God's Army who dedicated her gifts to serve. He whom trusted to see her reward in Glory on Tuesday; April 9, 2024.

Cheryl was born in Brooklyn, New York to Frank and Diana Pierce, who loved to take her out for soul food, the latest Bruce Lee films and rides as Astro Land often. She delighted in accompanying her father to celebrate several decades of sobriety with his friends and those who sought to achieve those milestones by following examples such as his.

"Cheryl P" graduated from The High School of Performing Arts. Although Cheryl excelled in drama there, she formed a hip hop alliance with a girl named Alissa that would last 40+ years, called "The Bubble Lucious Duo". She would kick rhymes like "My name is CJP and I'm here to rock youe stereo..." With a gift she would graciously pass down some time later.

Cheryl would introduce her son Tai to the world at age 21 and fought fiercely and successfully to love and protect him. Cheryl had the opportunity to see Tai become a father to her granddaughter; Dakota Jade, who immediately took her rightful place as Cheryl's new love of her life. Although they could not spend much time together, every minute was greatly cherished.

Cheryl would struggle with her weight for a few years. She would try several fad diets and exercise programs, but nothing really kept her going. She was introduced to martial arts by her friend; Satyra and suddenly everything changed. She was hooked, training almost every day and ultimately losing over 120 pounds. She also developed sharp technique that led to place twice in her first tournament.

Cheryl was a devoted member of Manhattan Grace Tabernacle, where she served as a powerful actress who reached the hearts of the masses with each role she assumed. She was also a soulful songstress who delivered every lyric with conviction and through her, God moved evidently every time.

Cheryl will always be remembered for her illuminating smile, unintentional humor, crazy nicknames she had foe everyone like; "Tuna Salad", "Pumpkin" and "Noodle-Tips", sometimes a combination of all, her love for life despite the circumstances, and an uncanny ability to mix kindness and toughness into one when necessary. We could not have asked for a better mother, sister, daughter, grandmother or friend. She will be missed, but we will surely celebrate together again. Until then her memory will go everywhere with those who loved her.

Cheryl is preceded in death by her mother; Diana, her aunts; Cookie and Francine and her grandmothers; Irene and Barbara.

Cheryl is survived by her father; Frank, her son; Tai, her sisters; Tammie and Angel, her brother; Maurice, her granddaughter; Dakota, her goddaughter; Niya, her godson; Nigel and many cousins, an aunt and uncles.
