Griffith
Nov 13, 1929 — Jan 19, 2022
Brooklyn
Christina Griffith was born in Belmont, Trinidad and Tobago, West Indies on November 13, 1929, to
Marie and Robert Waldron, she was their only child and a half- sister, Grace Toussaint they are all
(deceased).
After her first husband died Christina took the initiative to invest in a small business (called a Bodega in
the U. S.A.). It was located very close to her four children school in Trinidad and Tobago. Angela
attended Providence Girls Catholic School and Diane, St. Clair and Ephraim Belmont Methodist School all
on the same block and the next block was her business so she was able to keep a close eye on her
children.
Christina migrated to the United States over 60 years ago making this sacrifice to transition to give her
children the opportunity for what she perceived as a better life. She was reunited with her half-sister,
Grace with whom she lived. With her support she established a career in the Health Care Industry
worked to support herself, children and her mother back in Trinidad and Tobago. She eventually met
and married Mervyn Griffith Sr. in 1962 and from that union she had 3 sons, Mervyn Jr., Miles and
Michael. She then left her job to focus on caring for her sons.
She started the migration of her family in 1969 and by 1972 her mother and four children was all in the
United States. She often had family and friends stay at her home, especially when they were
experiencing challenging times. She was a foster mother to many children and took care of her friends
children whenever she was available. Christina gave her children guidance to obtain schools, college and
employment so now in the family there are a School Psychologist, Business and Real Estate Owner, a
Minister and Health Information Management Technician, Band Leader/Musician and a Retired Army
Veteran.
Her faith was strong and she instilled in her children the importance of going to church and believing in
the Lord. In 1979 she joined Brooklyn Tabernacle Deliverance Centre Church became a Missionary,
recognized as a Church Mother, also sang in the Dr. C. R. Johnson Choir and worked with the Security
Department for many years from which she retired. She was also a member of the City of Refuge Prayer
and Divine Ministry Church of Pastor Olayiwola Emmanuel.
Her children, friends and family admired her skills with her house painting and use of handyman tools
when the family purchased their first home at 460 Greene Avenue, Brooklyn where she lived until her
passing.
She leaves behind to celebrate her life: her daughters, Angela and Diane; her sons, St Clair, Ephraim,
