Deacon Clarence
Ennon Sr.
May 13, 1921 — Apr 6, 2022
Brooklyn
Relying always on God's promise to prepare a place for him as one of his faithful servants and followers, he was ready when God called our loving Deacon Clarence Ennon, Sr. home on Wednesday, April 6, 2022.
Clarence Ennon, Sr. was born on May 13, 1921 to the late Aldonia and Solomon Ennon in Cary, Mississippi and educated in Vicksburg, Mississippi. His strong resolve and dedication to God, Family and country led him to join the United States Navy in 1944 during World War II. He served on a Landing Ship Medium as a Steward's Mate 1 st Class Petty Officer.
He met and married Marjorie Brown April 21, 1942. His wife and family relocated to Brooklyn, New York where he later joined them. They moved to Bushwick Avenue in 1964 and he established a dry-cleaning business in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
Deacon Ennon became a member of First Calvary Baptist Church more than 60 years ago. He was a faithful servant, choir member, treasurer, and Sunday school teacher. His greatest achievement was being elevated to Head Deacon, a position he revered.
Mr. Ennon experienced numerous obstacles but celebrated many victories during his 100-plus years. He received a Congressional Proclamation from the House of Representatives in recognition of his 100th year from the Honorable Hakeem Jeffries. This took place during a celebration of the Black Veterans Association of Brooklyn, New York on Memorial Day, May 2021. The Proclamation will remain in the Archives of the Congressional Records. He was an inspiration to many and gave advice freely. He was a veteran, small business entrepreneur, homeowner who loved to garden, and a family man. His accomplishments were made possible through the love and support of his family and friends.
Known as Dad, Daddy and Pop to family members and friends, Deacon Ennon was a devoted father to five children, 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren. His wife of 64 years, Marjorie, sons Charles Edward and Clarence, Jr., brother; Lee, daughter-in-law Evelyn (Doris) and one grandson, Stephen preceded him. Left to cherish his memory are his son Marvin Lee, (Dr. Aprele Elliott) daughters Beverly Gail of Brooklyn, New York, Rev. Dr. Kimberly Fisher (Lindsay) of Utica, Mississippi, a sister Aldonia Morish of San Francisco, California, daughter-in-law Mary E. Ennon of Hackensack, New Jersey, several nieces, nephews, church family, and friends.
