Dennis
Penniston
Jun 8, 1936 — Jun 23, 2024
Brooklyn
Dennis Penniston Sr, 88 passed away peacefully at Downtown Brooklyn Rehabilitation Center on June 23, 2024. He was born, one of a set of twin boys on June 8th, 1936, to Gwendolyn and John Penniston on the Island of Saint Vincent. The family soon moved to Trinidad where Dennis and his siblings were raised.
Dennis worked at Air Canada Airlines for many years before he later retired. In 1977 he migrated from Trinidad to Brooklyn, NY, U.S.A. Where he eventually met and married his late wife, Nadine Penniston. Nadine and Dennis had 3 lovely children together. Dennis also had 2 children from a previous marriage.
Dennis, also known as "Sally," was an old-fashioned Trini, who's childhood stories include fearlessly climbing trees to reach for sweet mangos and diving from high cliffs into the clear Caribbean Sea. He grew to be a God-fearing man, a hard-working faithful husband, and stern father. Dennis had a love and talent for singing. On occasion, he would serenade his wife Nadine with a song that he dedicated to her called 'Stealing Love on the Side'. Also, for a short time, he sang in a group alongside his twin brother Lewis.
Dennis was a devout Christian, who taught his family about the importance of prayer and having God in their lives. He read his bible frequently and attended church faithfully. In his later years he became a member of the Living Church of God, located in New York, NY. led by his esteemed Pastor Brent Mitchell. As his health declined and Dennis could no longer physically attend service, he remained a dedicated member and joined in services by phone every Saturday. Pastor Mitchell would also visit Dennis at his home to pray with and minister to him during those difficult times. Dennis' favorite hymns were 'Old Rugged Cross' and 'Turn your eyes upon Jesus'. His most favorite scripture Psalms 54. Dennis was a true servant of God and has earned his place in Heaven.
Dennis is predeceased by his parents Gwendolyn and John Penniston, and sisters Jeanette and Merlin. To cherish in his memory, Dennis leaves behind, 3 daughters, Suzette, Nadine and Jasmine, 2 sons, Terri and Dennis Jr, his twin brother Lewis Penniston, grandchildren: Noah, Leander, Hunter, Ayden, Madison, Mya, others and a host of family and friends.
