Obituary

Mrs. Elaine Black, age, 79 of Brooklyn, New York went to meet our Lord on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024. Elaine was born in Harlem to the late Mildred and Leo Pride. The oldest of five children, Elaine moved to Brooklyn as a youngster where she became a lifelong Brooklynite. She attended Brooklyn Central Commercial High School focusing on secretarial studies.

Elaine was a devoted wife and mother; wed to Theodore Black, they were blessed with a family of six children. Elaine's genuine love for Children allowed her to take on the role of being a foster Mother, taking in children and caring for them in the 90's. She was a homemaker who loved doing any and everything she could to take care of and show love to her family. Her compassionate reach extended further as she poured her love into the lives of her grandchildren. Elaine's expansive heart and unwavering commitment to family touched the lives of many, including her community. Elaine was recognized and commemorated by her Fort Greene Housing Community as well as the NYPD for her courageous and heroic actions in helping apprehend a crime perpetrator. Elaine enjoyed spending time with family and friends, eating snow crab legs, watching lifetime movies and reality tv shows.

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore; her parents, Mildred, and Leo Pride; her brother, Larry Pride; her sister, Kim Pride; her oldest and youngest sons, Tyzell, and Lance. May their memories be a source of comfort and they live on by those who loved them.

Elaine's enduring love lives on through her surviving children: Parrish Black (Karen); Stacey Anthony Black (Sabrina); Candice Black;(Cheryn) Latwann Jackson-Black; (Darnell Sr.)her grandchildren, Rashid, Elijah, Xavier, Antwann, Shanice, Amelia, Daunte, Quincy, Robert, Savannah, Darnell, Jr.; her great granddaughter, Emelia; her two surviving sisters; Janice Pride-Boone (Jerry) of Troy, New York, Amanda Todd-Bagot (Lloyd) of Richmond, Virginia. She is also survived by cousins Alexis Monroe, Tyrell Monroe, Persinia Manning, nieces and nephews.

Elaine will be dearly missed. Her living gave us love as described in the Bible, 1 Corinthians 13:4-7: it was "patient and kind", "it did not boast", "it never failed", and "endured all things". Her memory will live forever in our hearts.
