Evelyn
Cannon
Mar 14, 1954 — Jul 31, 2022
Newark
Evelyn "Pinky" Cannon was born on March 14 th ,1954 in Orangeburg, South Carolina to the late Thelma and Theodore Almonds. She was the first child of six siblings.
Evelyn was loving, caring, funny and authentic. Evelyn had 3 brothers, so she picked up the trait of being fearless at a young age. She never bit her tongue; she said whatever was on her mind at the time and it was up to you to take it how you wanted it. There was never a dull moment around her.
Her parents eventually moved her and her 2 siblings back to New York where she attended school at the time living in Tilden Projects where she met and began dating Mr. Donald Thompson known to many as "Nut" and from that loving courtship they had two children a daughter; Tangy S. Thompson (Bubbles) and eight years later a son; Donald Thompson. When the two decided to separate she continued on taking care of her children with no hard feelings or regrets. She knew she had to take care of her children and she did just that. Moving forward to the early 80's she then met and fell smitten by Mr. Ronald Cannon, the two began a relationship and fell in love in turn that love then turned into 37 years of marriage to date. All though they never had children together he accepted and loved her children as she did his. They loved them all the same. Ronald was big on the word Family and that just what they became, one big Family. La Familia as he would say.
Evelyn appreciated the simple things in life such as: cooking, watching different documentaries, looking after her grandkids and of course her scratch off's. She was a gem and truly will be missed.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; Thelma and Theodore Almonds, her two sisters; Virginia and Lavern Almonds and two brothers; Teddy and Sandy Almonds.
Evelyn is survived by: her husband; Ronald Cannon, her brother; Wesley Almonds, her daughter; Tangy (Khalid) Adams, her son; Donald Thompson, her stepdaughter; Winter Cannon, her stepson; Jamel Thompson, her grandchildren; Shyrone (Chantell) Thompson, Donayah Thompson, Iyanna and Khaliyah one Adams, Journey, Tyler and Amir, her great granddaughter; Ambriel Thompson, her great grandsons; Gabriel and Michael Thompson and Zy'aire, a very special aunt; Martha and her sister-in-law more like sister; Earleen Cannon; they were the modern day Thelma and Louise. Evelyn had a few people in her life that she often spoke about growing up; her aunt; Skeeta , who is no longer with us, her first cousin; Audrey and two very good childhood friends; Helen and Denise, she always said they were thick as thieves and that those were her girls. We can't forget her fur baby; Louis Cannon, her cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
