James Henry Hicks Jr. was born in Portsmouth Virginia on the 30th day of May 1939.  He was the child of the late James Henry Hicks and the late Ida G.( McPerson) Hicks. James was the second child of six siblings, the late Odessa Rodgers, the late Rosa Lee Hicks, the late Edward Hicks, and the late Jessie Hicks leaving behind his brother Dr. Charles Hicks (Louise) and sister Ida Freeman. As a child he attended the Portsmouth VA public school system where he then graduated from I C Norcom High-school in 1958.

In the pursuit of new opportunities as a young man he moved to Brooklyn New York, where he he later worked as a cook. On March 24th 1965 James married Rementa at their home on Hart street in Brooklyn NewYork where they lived for many years before relocating to Madison Street.

James Hicks was a social butterfly who made a friend everywhere he went , everyone knew James when he would walk through the neighborhood in which he lived. He also loved  social gatherings with family and friends where he would take pictures to capture the moment.

James had a profound love for music and kept a huge record collection where he would listen to music for hours just to past time, it was his hobby and his joy however he loved gospel music the best.

He loved to serve the lord through song and worship and Through out the years he song gospel music with several quartet groups. The Five Sing Stars, The Galileans, The Twilights , and The Golden Harmonizers, to name a few also loved play the base guitar.

James Hicks had a profound memory when it came to remembering important dates like birthdays, anniversaries and historical events. He was a walking text book when it came to changes in the neighborhood and could compute numbers in his head in an instant.

James was 83 years old when he passed on October 18 2022 at Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn New York after a long battle of illness.

He leaves behind his wife Rementa Hicks, his  son Henry Eugene Hicks, grand daughter Mercedes, This son Darren Hicks , granddaughter Shuntay Hicks great grand children Willie Franklin, Paris Franklin, Elijah Franklin, & Amir Mcintyre . Granddaughter Nikia Marie Hicks great grand children Kylend Rose, Khalifa Hicks,  Kyra Hicks .His daughter  Ebony Arrington and grandchildren D'Andre Paige El jr., Aaliyah Paige El, Emmanuel Paige El, Israel Paige El, and Brielle E'Niyah Jordan. His brother Dr. Charles Hicks (Louise) his sister Ida Freeman, Six sister in law's and three brother in laws, and host of nieces and nephews cousins and friends.

James will truly be missed and kept Close to our hearts. May his soul Rest In Peace.
