Joanne C. Hargett was the second of 10 children. She was born on September 8,1938 in Brooklyn New York to Elijah and Sarah Hagen Hargett.

She was lovingly called Cynthia and Aunt "Cyn Cyn" by her nieces and nephews.  After she graduated from Franklin K. Lane High School, she went on to work for the Bell Atlantic phone company. She also worked as an auxiliary police officer and several other jobs before working for the Human Services Administration for 27 years.  Joanne was very outgoing and beloved by co-workers and friends alike. Her loving spirit comforted those blessed to know her and was always ready to help others.

A few of her passions were watching Hallmark movies, word searches, going to the senior citizens center, BINGO, and speaking with friends and family. She would always be heard saying "Why haven't you called me"? One of her favorite things to do was to beat her children in Pacman, and to count/record cars passing on the highway by their color.

She was preceded in death by both parents, siblings Elijah Joseph Hargett, Drucilla Inez Davis, James Walter Hargett, William "Billy" Hargett, Jane Beatrice Hargett, Amina (Ronda) Hagan, Robert Hagen, Josehine Arnette Harper, Douglas Hagen, son Eugene "Manny" Adams, goddaughter Doris Victoria Harper and godson Haywood Lee Davis.

Left behind to mourn her she leaves her children Vanessa Victoria Lacks, son-in-law Robert Lacks, son Darnell Hargett, grandsons David Upson Hargett, Justin Adams, Quency Adams, Ethan W. Adams and great grandson Malcolm K. Hargett. Also, her devoted friends such as Linda Joyner, Joanne Thompson, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and many other friends.
