Obituary

Kim Yvette Summers was born on November 15 1965.to her belated loving mother; Dorothy "DOT" Summers and father, Yancy Suber.

Kim was born in Brooklyn, New York and remained a Brooklyn resident her entire life. She was a Spelling Bee Champ in Elementary School and a Booster/Cheerleader at Eli Whitney High School. In 1990, I'Sharae was born; and shortly after Kim would open her heart and become a mother figure to Osiris and Derrick. As a young adult, Kim had acquired a genuine concern for the care of the elderly. She worked for The New York City Office of Mental Health and Hygiene as a Caretaker for fourteen years; and was also employed by The Parks Department as a Seasonal Maintenance Worker.  Kim was a breast cancer survivor of nine years. Her three grandchildren were the joy of her life and were an intricate motivation for her to continually fight to extend her life for as long as possible.

Kim let all know that Leon Douglas was the love of her life for over seventeen years – until his untimely passing.  During their union, a son (Messiah) was born. His life was brief and heartfelt. Kim also had a love for animals.  She had a turtle (Skye), a frog (Horatio), and two Chihuahuas (Shadow and Mocha).  Her favorite past-time was cooking and sharing a meal – especially during holiday seasons.  Another was painting by numbers; and she was a lover of many genres of music.  She enjoyed being a part an audience at cooking themed talk shows.  She attended live shows like The Chew and Rachel Ray. Kim could be very resourceful in advocating for herself and others.

Kim Yvette Summers has gone on to join her beloved family members: her baby boy Messiah L. Douglas (1997) and his father Leon F. Douglas (2014), her mother Dorothy Ann Summers (1998), her brother Bobby Lewis Summers (2014) - her aunts Laura Neal (2005), Johnnie Mae Summers (1967), Betty Lou Walker (2021), her uncles: Richard Earl Summers (2006), James Walter Summers (2007), and Larry Summers (2009) A godson Derrick Anthony McMillian (2015); and other family members, friends; and her loyal companion - Shadow (2021). We all know, our heavenly family is joyful to reunite with Kim in God's Kingdom.
