Obituary

Marion Ruth Parham Jacobs , affectionately known by family and friends as "ManRuth" was born on April 20, 1944, to the late Ruth and Louis Parham in Petersburg, Virginia. In 1946 the family migrated to New York with their family for a better life. Marion was educated in the NYC Public School, upon graduation from High School she began working as a Patient Registrar for NYC Health & Hospital's Bellevue Hospital's Emergency Department, a position she was very proud of which she held until she retired from the workforce.

On the eve of Friday, November 18, 2022, in New York University Hospital, Marion departed this life and went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and to reunite with her Parents and her Siblings of which she was the last living. Marion stayed strong. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like. There was no quit in Marion. Just because she is no longer here, it doesn't mean she lost her fight.

Marion married the love of her life Emil Jacobs. They were wed in April 1973. Through their union, the couple was blessed with a beautiful baby girl Ayana Sharise Jacobs. They lived and raised their small family in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn in the family's beautiful historical private home.

Marion was a faithful and devoted member of her family church, the Berean Missionary Baptist of Brooklyn, NY.  In her later years she joined the Temple Of Blessings COGIC in Brooklyn, NY under the leadership of the late Reverend David L. Grayson.

Marion was very proud of her family and was excited to become "Grandma" to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Marion took great joy and pleasure in going shopping for 'the boys'; she would take the trek all the way from Connecticut to New York to get 'the boys' a haul from the infamous Cookies Kids Store… that last trek that she wished to make for her newest great-grandson, she was unable to make due to her health challenges, but even in her sickness she conveyed to her daughter that she needed to get Jah's baby some clothes, when she learned that Ayana had already made a big purchase, she wanted to ensure that she contributed 'half' of the cost because she couldn't make it to Cookies to do her own shopping for him. TO KNOW HER WAS TO LOVE HER! She was a sold out Native New Yorker! Anybody that knew ManRuth knew that she was a Fashionista, a Diva, an Interior Decorator, and she had to have The Finest of Everything; Her Signature Trademark was Big Patti LaBelle/Chaka Khan Hair and a good ole pair of Big Rimmed Dark Sunshades…which she wore, whether she was inside or out and then she'd give you that once over look that only ManRuth could while looking at you over the top of her rims with her big beautiful eyes and her ever so petite hand covering her mouth….lol she will surely be missed.

Marion was preceded in death by her mother and father Ruth and Lewis Parham, and all her siblings, brothers Robert, Thomas & Lewis Jr. and one sister Ethel Wheeler (h) Johnny Lee her beloved brother-in-law.

She left to cherish her memories her only child, daughter Ayana Sharise Jacobs; two grandsons Jahsim Trotman and Omalani Trotman; two great-grandsons Kyree Trotman aka 'KyKy' and Tymire Trotman aka 'Ty'. One nephew Darin Wheeler aka Jimmy, one niece Yvonne Jones aka Wanda and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
