In Loving Memory of

Nicholas Saturday "Arku" Slight

May 12, 1962 – Oct 27, 2025

Nicholas Saturday Slight also known as Arku was born on a Saturday, May 12th, 1962, in Liberia, West Africa, to Jestina and Nathaniel Slight — the day of the week that gave him his middle name and became a part of his story forever. In 1983, Nicholas migrated to America, chasing opportunity! He carried with him the strength, pride, and resilience that defined him from the very beginning. He never forgot where he came from and built a life that honored both his roots and his dreams in Brooklyn, New York, where he called home.

Nicholas was a proud and loving father to five beautiful children — three in which he shared with Indira Francis —Nathaniel, Nickira, Nashawn and his two youngest that he shared with Anna — Jah and Bella — who were his pride and his greatest joy! Everything he did, every long day's work, every sacrifice, was for them. He taught them what it means to be strong, to work hard, and to love deeply. He was the beloved son of Jestina Dietze and her husband, John Dietze, and a caring brother to Anthony Nyenkan. Family meant everything to Nicholas. No matter how tough life got, his love for them never wavered.

Nicholas had a deep love for life's simple joys — the rhythm of a soccer ball at his feet and the soul-stirring sounds of good music. Whether it was the smooth groove of old-school R&B, the vibrant beats of Afrobeats, or the uplifting spirit of reggae, music was his heartbeat. He could often be found smiling, humming along, or moving to the rhythm — sharing his joy with everyone around him. On and off the soccer field, Nicholas carried that same rhythm in everything he did — full of energy, laughter, and heart.

Nicholas took great pride in his profession as an electrician, dedicating himself to his craft with diligence and skill. His hands built not only the home he lived in, but also a legacy of hard work, determination, and love that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

We will remember you Dad, for your perseverance, fun party spirit, and the way you could bring comfort just by being there. You had a generous heart that gave endlessly and a soul that will never fade. Your light will live on through us, your children, and may your memory live on in the hearts of all those who were fortunate enough to know you.

Rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love you gave so freely in this life. Nick aka Arku, you will be deeply missed!
