Obituary

Olga W. Barrett was born on December 22 nd , 1931 to Bertha (Clementina) Walker & Joseph Walker in Provincia De Camaquey in Cuba. She was the youngest of 6 children. Olga migrated to the United States in 1958 where she settled in Brooklyn, N.Y.

When Olga first came to the United States, she worked at B. Altman & Co., a high-end retail store in Manhattan, N.Y. In June 1960, she moved with her father to Hart Street in Bedford Stuyvesant. She loved living on Hart Street and got to know her neighbors very well.

In 1971, Olga met Eulion Barrett (Barry) at B. Altman's where they worked together. They were married and from this union birthed a son, Leonardo.

Olga and Barry were heavily into the church community and the Hart Street Block Association. Olga was a hard worker who did extra work in housekeeping and planting vegetables in her backyard.

Olga was a devoted wife and mother who had a strong will and determination. She made sure to keep Lenny intact with his schoolwork and chores around the house. She did not play! Later on in life, Olga began working at Saks Fifth Avenue as a supervisor for wrapping and delivery packaging.

Olga had a zest for life! Whether it was throwing dinner parties for family and friends or traveling to Bermuda, Bahamas, Niagara Falls, Virginia Beach and back to Cuba, she always made sure she enjoyed herself!

After a prolonged illness that kept her hospitalized, Olga passed away on February 23 rd , 2022 in Brooklyn Hospital.

She leaves behind her son Leonardo, her nephew David L. Walker, a great grand-niece Mia K. Walker, extended family members and many friends from Hart Street and beyond.

Olga was a source of strength and inspiration for her family. She lived her life with simplicity and humility.

She will be missed and forever loved.
