Obituary

Shawn Robert Dunn, known to many as Knowledge Born or KB, was born on March 13, 1963. He was raised by his mother, Janet Dunn, and his grandmother, Rochelle Dunn. Shawn was a smart child, with a charming smile that would light up any room. Shawn was educated in the New York City Public School system. Despite facing many challenges, Shawn earned his GED. He was known as an avid reader and a life-long learner. He enjoyed writing letters and had the most exquisite penmanship. He called many places home, but Brooklyn and the Bronx are the boroughs he loved the most. Shawn had an entrepreneurial spirit. He worked in many capacities, from security to selling novelties and balloons.

Shawn's gregarious personality made him a friend to many. He loved his family fiercely and would protect and defend any of them. He took pride in cooking and carpentry and was known to remodel and redecorate his space. Most of all, Shawn was a lover of music. He was happiest DJing the party and playing the soundtracks for the celebrations of our lives. He loved to entertain with his tunes, his stories, and his jokes. His laughter was contagious and a pure reflection of his kind heart. He was a generous soul, willing to help those who needed him. He was not afraid to have a good time or a good glass of his favorite wine. He was always the life of the party. Shawn's children were his greatest accomplishments. He took pride in who they became and the successes they achieved. He loved being "Gramps" and delighted in the growth of his granddaughters. He embodied the phrase, "Life was meant to be lived." He cherished every moment and embraced the joy of each day.

On October 7, 2023, Shawn departed this world to join the ancestors who transitioned before him; his mother, Janet Dunn; grandmother, Rochelle Dunn; father figure, John Ramsey; big brother, Rodney Dunn; little sister Kim Dunn; brother-in-love, Joseph Dunn Johnson, Jr, and his favorite cousins, Olivia (Chee-Chee) and Danny, and the many family members who welcomed his spirit home.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Shakia; three children, Chekemma, Quawon, and Shakeena; son-in-law, Terrence; six granddaughters, Taylor, Tajon, Tori, Mya, Tiana, and Symphanni; nine siblings, Rhonda, Regina, Angie, Kevin, Ukeema, Dawn, Lucinda, Solomon, and Damon; step-sister Zelda, three brothers-in-law, Micah, Gary, and Nelson; and two sisters-in-law, Julia and Cherril; Aunt Barbara, his partners-in-parenting, Veronica and Jackie, and his special friend, Tanya. He was blessed with 25 nieces and nephews, who all held a special relationship with Uncle Shawn and a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Shawn's personality was a bright light. His spirit will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew him. Shawn's life was filled with love. He gave us his very best. We honor his life and release him to take his eternal rest.
